Note of clarification from the Bishop of Upper South Carolina

Author:

Andrew Waldo

The Bishop of Upper South Carolina, the Rt. Rev. Andrew Waldo, has written to Anglican Ink concerning the article published last week on his Advent letter.  He writes:
Thank you, Mr. Conger, for your comments on my Pastoral Letter to the Diocese of Upper South Carolina for the 1st Sunday of Advent. I feel the need to clarify two key things about my letter that you seem to have misinterpreted in your introductory comments. First, the support I offered to continuing Episcopalians in the Diocese of South Carolina was not offered in the spirit of entering fray of “battle” (your word) but of reconciliation and pastoral concern. Second, I was not laying any ground work for their “absorption into [my] diocese.” None of us knows how this process will ultimately unfold. My concern and care are pastoral, and are rooted in the many personal relationships that extend across diocesan lines in South Carolina.
