Nkoyoyo home

The former Archbishop of Uganda, the Most Rev. Livingstone Nkoyoyo has returned home following six months of medical treatment in London

The former Archbishop of Uganda, the Most Rev. Livingstone Nkoyoyo has returned home following six months of medical treatment. On 29 June 2017 Archbishop Nkoyoyo arrived in Kampala from London, and was greeted with a service of thanksgiving at Namirembe Cathedral. The archbishop travelled to London in November 2016 seeking treatment for esophageal cancer.  However, his family was unable to raise the £60,000 requested by the hospital to cover his hospitalization costs. A fundraising campaign launched by his family and supported by the current Archbishop of Uganda helped cover part of the costs. In January President Yoweri Museveni’s Senior President Press Secretary, Don Wanyama, sent out a tweeting stating:  “The president has made 23,00 dollars contribution to settling Archbishop Nkoyoyo’s medical bills and wished him a quick recovery.” Archbishop Nkoyoyo served as Primate of the Anglican Church of Uganda from 1995 to 2004 and shepherded the church through the political tumult following the country’s return to democracy. His family reports he will return to London at year’s end for further treatment.
